1. Organizational context
(a) Organizational Setting
Fellowships aim to provide fellows with experience to strengthen their knowledge and professional competence, which they can apply in their professional field once they have completed their fellowship with WIPO. Fellowships are awarded for specific activities, which provide the fellows training, within the approved work plan of the employing office.
This fellowship position is located in the News and Media Division in the Office of the Director General and is dedicated to supporting the direction and achievement of the communications objectives of the Regional and National Development Sector (RNDS).
The News and Media Division is responsible for overseeing the Organization’s press, media- related and social-media activities, including photographic and video productions, as well as producing engaging content to promote awareness and understanding of intellectual property and WIPO’s activities.
RNDS focuses on supporting member states in strengthening their intellectual property (IP) ecosystems and using IP as a tool for economic, social and cultural development.
By improving the Sector’s visibility and engagement, member states and users of the IP system can see the impact of WIPO’s efforts to support them which in turn, fuels future collaboration with WIPO across regions and industries and promotes use of WIPO’s IP services.
(b) ** Purpose **statement
The Fellow will contribute in providing expertise in all areas of RNDS’s communications work in line with the RNDS Communications strategy, showing the human impact of IP use as a tool for fostering economic, enterprise, employment and cultural growth.
The Fellow will support strategic evolution of the RNDS Communications Strategy in carrying out its mandate by enhancing the sector’s visibility and engagement with key stakeholders while harmonizing its outreach and messaging to key audiences in alignment with WIPO’s Medium-Term Strategic Plan (MTSP). Specifically, the Fellow will support the integration of communication strategies into RNDS projects to enhance sustainability and facilitate replication.
The Fellow will also collaborate on establishment of a growing stream of WIPO technical support to its stakeholders and beneficiaries in the form of capacity building in communications for individuals and smaller enterprises, enabling them to effectively use the range modern communications and branding tools to grow their activities within the framework of these projects/initiatives.
The Fellow will also grow the “IP for Impact” web pages and LinkedIn account as well as manage the operations of individual and corporate social media accounts for RNDS.
(c) Reporting** **lines
The Fellow works in the News and Media Division under the supervision of the Senior Media Officer, in close collaboration with colleagues across RNDS and with a product reporting line to the Office of the Deputy Director General, Regional and National Development Sector.
2. Duties and responsibilities
The Fellow will perform the following principal duties:
a) Support implementation of communications work from the RNDS for use on WIPO’s social media and other channels.
a. Plan and create of content (articles, video scripts, social media posts) from RNDS initiatives and programs for use via WIPO’s corporate social media channels, showing how use of IP fosters economic growth and national and regional development. This includes supporting the establishment and implementation of:
i. Communications and business goals
ii. Target audiences
iii. Messaging
iv. Content strategy
v. Workflow
vi. Community engagement
vii. Promotion
b. Overseeing the process from concept to launch of new content streams.
b) Grow the “IP for Impact” web pages and LinkedIn social media presence.
a.Assist in the conception and preparation of social-media content campaigns, including:
i. Research, coordinate, draft, test and publish original content for social media and, as applicable, related digital channels
ii. Develop and keep up to date an editorial calendar for all channels
Coordinate the production of and maintain, when implemented, social media kits
iii. Compile and analyze social media and other digital analytics, as well as qualitative campaign data.
c) Assist in the establishment of a capacity building program focused on supporting WIPO RNDS beneficiaries’ use of a wide range of communications and branding tools to grow their enterprises and thus promote national economic growth.
i. Support the creation of modules for delivery to guide beneficiaries in using storytelling and robust social media presences to attract new clients and burnish reputation.
ii. Assist in the delivery of capacity building exercises.
iii. Monitor impact of capacity building exercises and support the creation and delivery of follow up activities.
d) Support the management of RNDS leadership’s social media channels:
iv. Research and draft original content for RNDS social media posts.
v. Customize and test content for RNDS leaders’ social channels (copy, visuals, etc.) and publish/schedule posts
vi. Coordinate the production of audio-visual content for posts such as photos, videos, infographics, quote cards, GIFs, etc.
vii. Monitor activity on RNDS leaders’ social channels
viii. Manage community interactions to promote engagement and ensure reputational risk mitigation
ix. Compile and analyze RNDS social media and web analytics, as well as qualitative data, and incorporate it into activity and performance reports
x. Oversee the development, execution, optimization of, and reporting on organic and promoted social media campaigns.
e) Perform other related tasks as required.
3. Requirements
Education
Essential:
First-level university degree in communications, law, international relations, digital marketing, or other relevant fields such as social sciences or humanities.
Experience Essential:
At least three (3) years experience in and evidence of conceiving, producing and editing text and video content for targeted specialized audiences that illustrates how intellectual property use supports economic growth for individuals and enterprises.
Experience in communications for development (C4D)
Experience in corporate external communications for a public or private sector organization, preferably in an international setting, with a focus on planning and delivering digital communications in support of organizational goals.
Desirable:
Experience in using corporate social media management applications and analytics.
Experience in conceiving, producing and editing short videos for use on social media platform
Experience in delivering capacity building or other training.
Languages Essential: Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.
Desirable: Working knowledge of any other official UN languages such as French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian or Arabic.

5. Terms and conditions
a) Term of fellowship: A fellowship may be granted for a period of up to 12 months. Subject to project needs and availability of funds, it may be possible for the contract to be extended for an additional 12-month term.
b) Anticipated Start Date: June 1, 2026.
c) Location: WIPO Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland.
d) Stipend: CHF 7,000 monthly.
e) Travel expenses: WIPO shall contribute towards the cost of the fellow’s travel on engagement and separation from service. If necessary, WIPO may provide assistance in obtaining an entry visa to Switzerland.
f) Insurances: WIPO contributes toward the cost of medical insurance and provides professional accident insurance coverage during the course of the fellowship.
g) Residence and work permit: WIPO will request a carte de légitimation for the Fellow which serves as a residence and work permit, from the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations Office and to the other international organizations in Geneva. Family members are not eligible for a carte de légitimation.
h) Tax and social security: Fellows shall be solely responsible for meeting any taxation and social security obligations that may arise directly or indirectly from their contract with WIPO.
