Strategic Purchaser, Indirect Procurement

Wärtsilä Indirect Procurement is a global support function in Wärtsilä serving all employees, functions, and businesses in their indirect purchasing needs. We are looking for a Strategic Purchaser in permanent position in Vaasa, Finland with a main responsibility in strategic sourcing activities in HR and Personnel Services category in Indirect Procurement Finland team.
Your role and responsibilities
As a Strategic Purchaser you will work closely with different stakeholders and suppliers, maintaining and creating valuable relationships and networks, you will lead and participate in contract and price negotiations and support in sourcing related matters. You will also work closely with your own team and organization to develop the services IP provides. To succeed as a Strategic Purchaser, you identify yourself as a social and energetic person with team player skills and a “Doer” attitude.
Main responsibilities:
- Build and manage long‑term, trust-based relationships with key suppliers.
- Build and manage key stakeholder relationships.
- Conduct tendering processes and lead contract and price negotiations.
- Create supplier evaluations, analyse supplier performance and report savings.
- Identify and execute synergy opportunities and innovations.
- Increase the awareness of the purchasing processes and policies within various stakeholder groups
- Coordinate and support creation of needed guidelines and policies for categories and ensure that all relevant information is available for end users by communicating, training, and supporting end users.
- Contribute to achieve Indirect Procurement KPI targets, such as business benefits and end user satisfaction.
- Develop and execute strategic purchasing for the region in co-operation with Indirect Procurement team
Requirements for the position:
- Education: M.Sc in Economics or equivalent
- Proven experience in Indirect Procurement and strategic sourcing in field of HR and personnel services
- Strong proven experience to build and manage long‑term, trust-based relationships with suppliers and stakeholders
- Excellent presentation, communication and negotiation skills
- Fluent written and spoken English and Finnish
Qualifications/to be able to succeed in the position we expect you to have:
- Deep understanding of supply agreements and contractual content
- Strong experience to review, interpret, and shape supply agreements
- Strong proven experience in contract negotiations and in other sourcing activities
- Strong capability to communicate rejections, pricing challenges and contractual constraints in a professional, constructive manner that protects long-term supplier relationships
- Good Office tools skills, especially excel
- Knowledge and skills in AI, data analysis, Total Cost of Ownership, business benefit calculations etc.
- Knowledge in IP tools (Coupa, Power BI, SRM)
- Experience in SAP
- Location: Vaasa
- A team player with a "Doer" attitude
