Job description

We are Skytree

Skytree enables a transition to a world with cleaner Air for everyone. We do this by developing and deploying smart technology that captures atmospheric carbon dioxide, enabling its use or storage to combat climate change and aid society and businesses around the world.

Born out of the European Space Agency (ESA), we are a global team of highly talented scientists, engineers and business professionals, supported by an experienced management team. Our working culture is based on a dynamic and smart approach to business with an open and understanding attitude to others and a desire to expand the boundaries of what is possible.

As we enter a new phase of growth, we are looking for a Test & Commissioning Engineer to continue on this journey with us.

Your role
As a Test & Commissioning Engineer, you will be a vital member of the Product, Design, and Development team (Technology organization), serving as the bridge between internal engineering and successful field deployment. This role requires a balanced expertise in both structured in-house hardware testing and specialized industrial commissioning. You will collaborate closely with other engineering teams to develop mature testing methodologies, interpret complex electrical diagrams, and coordinate with PLC engineers to validate system logic against physical performance. Operating with a high level of autonomy, you will lead both internal Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and on-site Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), ensuring our CO2 capture units meet rigorous performance and safety standards. While this position involves periodical travel to project sites, you will be equally rooted in the development cycle, influencing design for testability to ensure seamless transitions from lab to field.

All of this takes place within the context of industrialising our very first commercial product, which will be brought to the market throughout this year. This comes with the unique opportunity to have a direct impact on the success of Skytree. Curious? Then read along!

You’ll make an impact by

  • Validating Product and Sub-System Performance: Designing and executing comprehensive hardware test setups to ensure performance at the subsystem level before conducting full-scale validation of CO2 capture units against strict requirement specifications, including quality and production benchmarks.

  • Developing Mature Testing Protocols: Spearheading the development of in-house testing methodologies and owning physical test environments to improve product reliability and maturity.

  • Leading Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT): Managing the full lifecycle of acceptance testing, from conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at manufacturing sites to performing Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) during field activation.

  • Interpreting Technical Diagrams: Applying deep knowledge of electrical diagrams and P&IDs to verify internal wiring, troubleshoot system issues, and certify installations both in-house and in the field.

  • PLC & Software Coordination: Partnering with software and PLC developers to scale sensors, calibrate instrumentation, and ensure logic alignment during all phases of verification.

  • Influencing Design for Testability, Commissioning and Servicability: Collaborating with R&D and design teams to ensure hardware is developed with testability, ease of commissioning and serviceability in mind.

  • On-site Deployment Oversight: Providing technical leadership during the installation and activation of industrial projects, ensuring systems operate seamlessly in diverse client environments.

  • Field & Quality Documentation: Creating professional test reports, documenting 'as-built' status for system handover, and conducting quality investigations (including 8D reports) to drive continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

  • Educational Background: A degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • Proven Experience: 4+ years of relevant experience in a dual role involving hardware testing (electrical/mechanical) and commissioning industrial projects.

  • Technical Proficiency: A strong ability to understand electrical diagrams and a proven track record of coordinating with PLC developers for integrated system verification.

  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience working with LV power (400V AC) and the capability to design and execute complex product test setups.

  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting complex datasets using tools like Excel or Python.

  • Travel & Mobility: Possession of a valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel to client and project locations periodically as required for commissioning phases.

  • Communication: Professional communication skills in English; ability to manage stakeholder relationships and provide technical input in cross-functional teams both within the company as well as customer-facing.

  • Attributes: A collaborative mindset combined with high autonomy and analytical problem-solving abilities.

(If you need work permit/visa sponsorship and you’re 30 years or older, we’re unfortunately not  able to offer this position as it does not meet the salary requirement for sponsorship).

What you can expect

Apart from working with great colleagues and a competitive package, you can also expect:

  • A unique start-up environment offering organic professional and personal growth at one of the most innovative cleantech companies in Amsterdam!

  • A diverse (38+ nationalities) and fun team to work with.

  • Travel cost reimbursement (choose from an NS business card, lease bike, or 23ct p/km travel allowance).

  • Recharge with 25 vacation days, plus a little extra when life throws something special your way.

  • Enjoy the flexibility of hybrid work, with the option to work from home once a week.

  • Fun activities, organised by our very own Champagne Committee (e.g. a cooking class or Canal Adventures at the heart of the city centre).

  • Stay fueled with tasty fruits - because work should be enjoyable too.
