Job Description & Summary
Location:** **Bratislava, Košice (Hybrid) — Engage with global teams across Western Europe and the USA
Team: Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) - AI Security Consulting at PwC
Join PwC's pioneering data & AI team and help build the data foundations behind impactful AI solutions. We're growing quickly due to a strong pipeline of client work, and we're hiring across multiple seniority levels — from junior to senior Data Engineers.
Python is the core skill we expect. Depending on your strengths, you may focus on pipelines, platforms, SQL, or designing scalable data solutions. Many roles also include "full-solver" flexibility — contributing where needed, including automation, integration work, or enabling AI/GenAI use cases on modern platforms (including Microsoft technologies where relevant).
Key responsibilities:
-
Build the Backbone of AI Solutions: Design, implement, and maintain scalable **data pipelines **and ETL/ELT processes using **Python **and Spark (PySpark). You'll ingest, transform, and deliver data from diverse sources — from industrial sensor streams and satellite imagery to unstructured pharmaceutical documents — into analytics and ML platforms that power real impact.
-
Design Data That Scales: Create and optimize data models (star/snowflake schemas), build data warehouses and** data lakes**, and ensure your architecture supports everything from GenAI-powered dashboards and natural language interfaces to anomaly detection in financial systems and real-time industrial optimization.
-
Enable Machine Learning: Work hand-in-hand with data scientists and ML engineers. Implement robust **preprocessing **and **feature engineering **steps so that datasets feeding NLP models, computer vision pipelines, classification systems, and predictive analytics are clean, consistent, and production-ready.
-
Make It Fast, Keep It Reliable: Optimize data processing jobs and SQL queries for performance and cost efficiency. Monitor pipelines in production — whether they're serving knowledge retrieval tools, regulatory compliance models, or geospatial analysis — and ensure reliability, scalability, and adherence to SLAs.
-
Work Directly with Clients: Collaborate with clients across **Western Europe **and the **USA **to understand their data landscape, translate business needs into technical designs, and provide expert guidance on **data architecture **and best practices. Your work will span industries from pharma and energy to agriculture and finance.
-
Guard Data Quality & Security: Implement data quality checks, validation frameworks, and governance standards. Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance in line with PwC and client requirements.
-
Grow — and Help Others Grow: Stay at the forefront of** data engineering, big data,** and cloud technologies. Share your knowledge with junior team members through code reviews, mentorship, and hands-on guidance.
Who We're Looking For:
-
Programming Skills (Key Requirement): Strong programming skills in Python (e.g. pandas, PySpark, SQLAlchemy, airflow-like tools). The ability to write** clean, maintainable, and testable code** is essential. Experience with other programming languages is a plus.
-
**Data Pipelines: **Demonstrated hands-on experience building data pipelines, ideally using Spark (PySpark) or similar distributed processing frameworks. Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT workflows.
-
Data Preprocessing Awareness: Understanding data preprocessing needs for ML models (handling missing values, outliers, encoding, normalization, feature extraction, etc.) is highly valued.
-
**Large-Scale Data: Experience working with large datasets and complex data transformations. **
-
**Database Expertise: **Proficiency in SQL databases (designing schemas, writing complex queries, optimization). Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra, Cosmos DB) is an advantage.
-
Cloud & Big Data (Nice to Have): Experience with cloud data platforms (preferably Azure: Synapse, Databricks, Data Factory, Azure SQL, Data Lake) or similar services on** AWS/GCP.**
-
**Professional Background: ** 2–3 years of professional experience in **data engineering, BI engineering, **or similar data-focused roles.
-
Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to understand complex data landscapes, debug data issues, and design logical, efficient data flows.
-
**Language Skills: **English at B2 level or higher.
Projects you could be involved in:
-
Natural Language Data Exploration: Develop dashboards powered by GenAI for intuitive business data analysis.
-
Document Interaction: Design tools enabling seamless interaction with unstructured and structured text documents.
-
Knowledge Assistant: Implement ERP transformation with GenAI tools to resolve employee inquiries efficiently.
-
Agricultural Monitoring: Utilize Computer Vision for analyzing satellite imagery on a large scale.
-
Automated Reconciliation: Create systems to identify anomalous transactions in accounting ledgers.
