Data Governance Business Analyst

Job Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Business Analyst to support the implementation and operationalization of enterprise data governance. The role will work closely with business stakeholders, data architects, data owners, data stewards, and technology teams to establish governance processes, implement data catalog and lineage capabilities, and improve data transparency across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with data governance frameworks, metadata management, business glossary implementation, and data lineage, particularly using tools such as Microsoft Purview and Unity Catalog.
Experience in the Insurance industry, specifically Property & Casualty (P&C), is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance Implementation

Support the design and implementation of enterprise data governance frameworks, processes, and policies.

Support implementation of data governance controls aligned with regulatory and data protection frameworks such as General Data Protection Regulation, including data classification, sensitive data handling, and metadata tagging.

Help establish and operationalize data ownership, stewardship, and governance workflows.

Collaborate with business and technical teams to define data standards and governance practices.
Metadata Management & Data Catalog

Lead the implementation and adoption of data catalog capabilities using Microsoft Purview.

Develop and maintain a business glossary and data dictionary.

Ensure business terms are mapped to technical metadata and data assets.
Data Lineage & Data Discovery

Support implementation of end-to-end data lineage across data platforms.

Enable traceability of data from source systems to analytics and reporting layers.

Facilitate impact analysis for data changes.
Stakeholder Engagement

Work closely with business users, data stewards, data engineers, and architects to capture governance requirements.

Facilitate workshops to define business definitions, data ownership, and data quality rules.

Promote data governance awareness and adoption across teams.
Data Platform Collaboration

Collaborate with engineering teams working on modern data platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric or Azure Databricks

Support metadata integration and governance across data lakes, warehouses, and analytics platforms.
Required Skills & Experience
Experience
-
5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or data-related business analysis roles.

Hands-on experience implementing data governance tools, particularly using tools such as Microsoft Purview or Unity Catalog

Strong experience working with data stakeholders across business and technology teams.
Industry Knowledge
-
Good understanding of the Dutch insurance industry, particularly Property & Casualty (P&C)

Understanding of data protection and privacy regulations, particularly General Data Protection Regulation, and how they relate to data governance, metadata management, and sensitive data classification.
Technical Knowledge

Good understanding of modern data platforms and architectures, including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric & Azure Databricks

Strong SQL knowledge and ability to understand data structures.

Understanding of data warehousing, data lakes, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
Nice to Have
-
Experience with data lineage and impact analysis frameworks.

Knowledge of data quality management practices.

Experience working with regulatory or compliance-driven data environments in insurance.

Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Management, Data Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
