Our client, a leading automobile manufacturer, is recruiting for an Automotive Legal Counsel to join their business in Spain. Position Title: Automotive Legal Counsel Position Type Permanent Start Date: ASAP Location: Madrid, Spain Contact: Bianca Papa | +49(0)89238898673 Responsibilities Act as one of the primary legal advisors for EU operations, providing timely, commercially pragmatic guidance on key legal matters, including but not limited to foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, factory cooperation, import and customs, distributor and dealer management, retail operations, industry and consumer related compliance and employment-related matters. Collaborate with the China Head Office legal team to adapt and implement global compliance policies and processes for the EU market. Draft, review, negotiate, and standardize a range of contracts, including but not limited to KD cooperation agreement, distributor and dealer agreements, sales and after-sales agreements, product warranty policies, commercial leases, store operation related contracts, agreements of all kinds of outsourced services. Oversee compliance with EU data privacy regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and other emerging privacy laws of different European countries, while implementing global data protection policies. Monitor changes in the laws and regulations of EU and different European countries and provide proactive legal advice to mitigate risks and ensure compliance. Support supply chain operations by addressing legal issues related to import/export compliance, customs regulations, and logistics. Ensure corporate governance compliance, including maintenance of statutory records and submissions for EU entities. Develop and deliver training programs tailored to EU legal and compliance requirements, focusing on data privacy, contract management, retail operational best practices, etc. Manage relationships with external counsel, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality external legal support for specialized matters. Provide ad hoc legal support to the EU leadership team and contribute to cross-functional projects as needed. Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in law from a reputable law school, active bar membership in good standing, preferably in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Spain or Italy. 5 plus years' post-qualification experience in reputable law firms and/or in-house environment, expertise in automobile, manufacturing or retail industries is strongly preferred, and experience with supply chain operations, import/export compliance, or international trade law is a significant advantage. Familiarity with EU legal issues impacting automobile, manufacturing, retail, international trade, real property leasing, data privacy, brand marketing, commercial contracts and employment. Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with global teams. Familiarity with global operations, especially interactions with Chinese entities, is a strong advantage. Adaptability to a fast-paced, multicultural environment with competing priorities. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills. Mandarin Chinese proficiency is a plus but not mandatory. Willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally as required .
