The Opportunity
The Child and Family Programs (CFP), Community Services team within the Ministry of Social Services is hiring After Hours Placement Workers. In this role, you would provide a range of services designed to provide placement support services for children and youth. The position will be responsible for providing after-hours emergency placement services to children and youth. You will work outside regular office hours, including evenings/overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays. This position is an on-call, rotational position, and hours are not guaranteed; standby pay is given while on rotation, but not actively responding to calls.
In this role, you will:

Be available to work after hours, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays to arrange placements for children and youth needing out-of-home care.

Collaborate with Mobile Crisis Services.

Explore all available options for the placement of children and youth requiring out-of-home care.

Communicate with providers to secure placements and coordinate placement details.

Document all completed work and provide documentation to the supervisor and placement coordinator.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:

Understanding of social work theory, practice and applications and human services principles including physical, emotional and cognitive development of children and youth to identify potential placements.

Proficiency in conflict resolution in situations when there are conflicting pressures.

Comprehensive understanding of the impact of child abuse on children’s social, physical and emotional development.

Awareness of available financial and non-financial resources in the community.

Insight into social and economic factors that impact family life and contribute to child abuse and neglect.
-
Understanding and awareness of multi-cultural beliefs and values, with a particular emphasis on First Nations and Metis.

Problem-solving, negotiation skills, and conflict resolution.

Accurately enter, format, and access data using computer software programs, (ie. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Candidates must clearly indicate in their cover letter or resume where they have acquired their knowledge, skills, and abilities. The selection of candidates will be assessed based on this information.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a diploma, certificate or degree in a Human Service related field; and experience working in a human service setting.
Hours of Work
This is an after-hours placement worker position, covering weekday evenings (4:30 p.m. – 8:30 a.m.), weekends, and statutory holidays, including overnight shifts outside of regular office hours.
The position operates on a bi-weekly rotation.
Compensation

On-call standby rate: $15 per 4-hour block

Hourly wage is paid when actively responding to calls
