Mission
The Laboratory of Photonics and Quantum Measurements (LPQM) at EPFL invites applications for a PhD position on the development of novel anomalous ferro-electric crystal based photonic integrated circuits. The project aims to establish a novel platform for integrated photonics, based on anomalous ferro-electric materials and to explore its exceptional electro-optic properties for ultrafast and compact devices.
The research will focus on the fabrication of thin films from crystals grown in house, development of nanofabrication processes, and realization of photonic devices such as high-speed modulators and tunable lasers.

Responsibililties

Develop fabrication processes for crystal-on-insulator platforms (bonding, thinning, etching)

Collaborate closely with the crystal growth facility at EPFL in the production and the characterisation of the novel crystals

Design and fabricate photonic integrated circuits

Perform optical and electro-optical characterization
-
Conduct numerical simulations and data analysis

Disseminate results through technical reports, publications and conference presentations聽

Requirements
-
Master鈥檚 degree in photonics, physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or a related field

Strong interest in experimental photonics and nanofabrication
-
Prior experience in cleanroom processing or photonic simulation is advantageous

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international environment
