Europe's English-language job hubs are not just London.

London is enormous, but the practical non-UK map for English-speaking candidates runs through Lisbon, Krakow, Dublin, Barcelona, Berlin, Geneva, Tallinn, Warsaw, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and Bucharest.

Non-UK map

Take London out and the map changes fast.

The strongest non-UK English-language office pattern in this cut is not one country. It is a triangle: Lisbon, Krakow, and Dublin, with sharp single-city anchors in Geneva, Tallinn, Warsaw, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and Bucharest.

  • Portugal, Poland, and Ireland account for 11 of the top 20 non-UK company-city-country slices.
  • Intergovernmental and pan-European employers create unusually stable English-first hubs.
  • Candidates should search by city and employer cluster, not just by country reputation.

Tier 1 markets

Netherlands and Switzerland are small but disproportionately visible.

Among Germany, Spain, Netherlands, France, and Switzerland, the Netherlands supplies seven of the top twenty strict English-volume slices. France appears only once in the strict Tier 1 top twenty.

  • Country-wide English share can hide concentrated city and employer pockets.
  • CERN, ESA, and EMA are durable English-language anchors for specialized candidates.
  • SAP appears across multiple countries and cities, creating several relocation paths.

Country reality

English-friendly reputation and English-job share are different things.

Portugal and Greece outrank Germany by a wide margin on English share, while Germany remains one of the biggest absolute markets. That makes Germany a targeting problem, not a market to ignore.

  • Germany has depth, but candidates need company and city targeting discipline.
  • France is the hardest major launch market by English-language share in this extract.
  • Netherlands has a strong English reputation, but only about one in three active jobs in the extract were English-language listings.
