The ranking
We matched official Destatis higher-education campus data for winter semester 2024/25 with active English-language job postings in the english-jobs.com local database.
The result is a labor-market access ranking: which German university campuses have the strongest English-speaking job market around them?

The public table below shows one representative university per city-market because city-centroid job data gives campuses in the same city the same nearby-job score. The downloadable campus CSV keeps every campus row.

What this ranking measures
This is not a ranking of academic quality. It is not a ranking of teaching, research, student satisfaction, or career-service quality.
It measures nearby English-language job access around campus locations.
How we counted jobs
The main score counts active English-language job postings in Germany within 10, 25, and 50 km of each campus. Jobs closer to campus receive more weight.
Remote-only jobs are excluded from the nearby score and reported separately because they are not physically around a campus. In this run, Germany had 3,000 active English remote jobs in the inventory.

Student-access view
The most interesting cases are not always the largest cities. The student-access view compares nearby English jobs with the number of foreign students at the campus.

Methodology and caveats
The campus data comes from Destatis Statistik der Studierenden, winter semester 2024/25, sheet csv-21311-12.
The job data comes from the english-jobs.com local job inventory on 2026-05-08. The Germany subset contained 24,909 active English-language job postings, of which 22,862 had a usable city for this ranking run.
Distances use campus/city coordinates and job city centroids resolved from GeoNames plus audited manual overrides. This is strong enough for a public market map, but not as precise as company-office address matching.
The ranking excludes job rows whose city geocodes outside Germany even when the raw row says location_country_code = DE. In this run that excluded 119 row.
The ranking measures job posting supply, not hiring outcomes.
Turn the report into action
Reports are most useful when they feed back into the real search flow. Use them to decide where to browse next, which jobs to prioritize, and whether it is worth joining alerts or application support.
Editorial and research team
The english-jobs.com Research Desk publishes methodology notes, market snapshots, and evergreen explainers that connect live job data with practical context for English-speaking candidates targeting Germany. These pieces are reviewed to keep them factual, current, and traceable back to source material or internal data.
