Job description
Become part of the James Hardie Europe GmbH success story. Your Partner in Growth.
We are the global market leader in fiber gypsum and fiber cement solutions with the fermacell® and James Hardie brands. With our ground-breaking innovations we change the way Europe builds. We are setting new standards in areas such as lean manufacturing, demand creation and implementing our push-pull strategy. Every day, our fantastic team combines the creative spirit of a start-up with the power of a global market leader.
We specifically promote the personal and professional development of our employees - through individual training and exciting projects. It's not just the company that grows with us, but also each individual in the team.
To strengthen our team, we are looking for a
Head of Raw Materials (f/d/m)in fulltime and permanent for our European Headquarters in Düsseldorf. We offer a hybrid workplace model (2 days office/3 days remote).
Your tasks
- Strategic Sourcing & Cost Impact: You own end-to-end category and sourcing strategies, combining deep market and cost‑driver analysis with strong commercial judgment to deliver sustainable cost, value, and risk impact for the business.
- Supply & Supplier Excellence: You take ownership in highly volatile raw‑material markets and lead confidently through supply disruptions, escalations and critical negotiations, build and develop strategic supplier partnerships, and manage performance and risks,
- Sustainability & Responsibility: You consistently embed sustainability, CO₂ reduction, and ethical sourcing into all procurement decisions, balancing commercial objectives with long‑term environmental and social responsibility.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Innovation: You confidently engage with senior stakeholders at all levels, including Plant Management, Finance Leadership, and Global Procurement, influencing decisions with data‑driven insights, commercial acumen, and clear recommendations.
- Leadership & Governance: You actively lead and steer the Raw Materials team with empathy, clear priorities, enable strong decision‑making, and accountability for results. You do not only develop people, but also set direction, challenge constructively, and ensure execution in complex and high‑pressure environments.
You are...
- smart? You hold at least a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Chemistry, Engineering, or a comparable field and bring 7–10 years of relevant professional experience in strategic procurement—ideally within raw materials or industrial manufacturing. You have proven expertise in commodity management, category strategy, and global sourcing, combined with a strong understanding of commodity markets, global supply structures, manufacturing processes, material specifications, and quality requirements. You are confident working with SAP, common procurement tools, MS Office, and data analytics.
- driven? Standing still is not an option for you. You combine strategic thinking with strong operational execution and stay focused even under pressure, amid ambiguity, and in fast‑changing market environments. You lead complex negotiations with global suppliers with determination and commercial acumen and are motivated to take ownership, drive topics forward proactively, and continuously grow— including stepping into or further developing people leadership responsibility.
- real? You connect with others through strong interpersonal and communication skills and you are able to influence senior functional stakeholders with clarity and credibility. With your open, authentic, and collaborative style, you build trust and work effectively across international, cross‑functional teams. You feel equally comfortable in German‑ and English‑speaking business environments; additional European language skills are a plus.
You don't meet all above mentioned criteria? Be brave and apply anyway! We offer a wide range of further training and are willing to develop you into the role, if necessary!
What we offer
- Flexible working hours and the option to work remotely to support an optimal work-life balance.
- Comprehensive support for families through the pme-family-service (advice, support in finding a nursery place and much more).
- Targeted training programs to support your development (Individual Development Plans, JH Academy, Master Plan, Employers for Equality, Women's Initiative Network), as well as numerous “Grow Events”.
- Comprehensive health offerings (Healthy Hardie to promote physical and mental health), including company supplementary health insurance and access to fitness programs.
- Attractive compensation model, as well as various benefits (such as BAV, Job Bike, Job Ticket).
- 30 vacation days.
Curious?
Then become part of James Hardie. We are only strong together as a team. Diverse employees drive innovation and growth. We are interested in what people think, regardless of culture, background, personal belief or physical disabilities. We are looking forward to getting in touch with you.
