Key responsibilities
Analytical Method Development: Develop, optimize and validate analytical methods to measure key physico-chemical parameters of plant-based meat products, including texture analysis, moisture content, water activity. Ensure methods are accurate, reproducible and fit for purpose with a focus on data reliability.
Product Characterization: Apply validated analytical methods to characterize product iterations across different formulations and processing conditions. Generate comprehensive physico-chemical datasets to support product development decisions. Maintain a critical eye to detect anomalies, outliers, or potential biases in the data.
Data-Driven Analysis: Analyze physico-chemical data using appropriate statistical analysis to understand the impact of formulation, or process changes on product performance. Combine a strong sense of observation with critical thinking and data interpretation to validate or challenge initial hypotheses. Identify unexpected patterns, troubleshoot inconsistencies, and propose evidence-based next steps. Translate results into clear, well-structured graphs or figures to support effective interpretation and communication.
Product Development Support: Actively contribute to plant-based formulation development. Support hypothesis-driven trials, participate in experimental design, and help define measurable success criteria aligned with product targets (texture, juiciness, etc.).
Scientific Documentation: Establish standard operating procedures for all validated analytical methods. Ensure rigorous documentation of analytical methods used, present samples and analytical data in a clear, visual and comprehensive format, including statistical comparisons across sample groups, reference products and selected targets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work directly with food scientists to translate analytical findings into actionable formulation recommendations. Present data insights to support strategic product development decisions.
Laboratory Excellence: Maintain and calibrate analytical equipment. Suggest optimization of analytical workflows. Follow hygiene and safety rules, maintain laboratory standards, and proactively communicate any equipment or ingredient needs to ensure optimal laboratory operations.
Requirements
Educational Background: Currently enrolled in Bachelor's or Master's program in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Academic Standing: Strong academic performance with genuine interest in food science and product development.
Technical and Analytical Skills: Basic understanding of food chemistry and ingredient functionality. Familiarity with laboratory procedures and analytical methods. Knowledge of food safety principles and laboratory best practices.
Soft Skills: Curious mindset with attention to detail and ability to follow protocols precisely. Proactive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced startup environment.
Availability: Ability to work 15-20 hours per week during studies, with flexibility to accommodate academic schedule.
Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and German, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
