Your mission
Our
Reliability Management team at the nextbike headquarters in Leipzig is responsible for
maximizing hardware performance and lifespan. We develop and implement strategies to
extend hardware longevity,
reduce total cost of ownership, and proactively
prevent failures. The team
coordinates stakeholders to address vehicle issues and drive improvement initiatives, implementing
scalable and
cost-efficient solutions while fostering a proactive, data-driven
reliability culture. Here’s what you can expect in this role:
- Own and drive reliability engineering activities for hardware across the nextbike fleet (bicycles, e-bikes, and electronic/mechanical subsystems)
- Conduct structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA), identify failure mechanisms, and drive corrective actions
- Develop and implement reliability strategies to improve performance, durability, and total cost of ownership
- Plan, execute, and evaluate tests (bench tests, field tests, environmental tests)
- Maintain reliability KPIs, reporting dashboards, and performance metrics
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and external development partners to prioritize and solve issues
- Support our product development with design-for-reliability input
- Create and maintain SOPs, technical guidelines, and documentation
- Drive continuous improvement in quality, lifespan, and maintainability
Your profile
- A completed technical Bachelor’s or Master's degree (e.g. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a similar field)
- Excellent English skills (C1 level), German skills are a plus
- Proven experience of 3+ years in reliability engineering, product testing, quality engineering, mechanical development, or similar roles
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, fatigue mechanisms, and product life-cycle behavior - ideally in the bicycle industry
- Hands-on experience with failure analysis, testing procedures, structured problem-solving, and RCA methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, Ishikawa, FMEA)
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear and audience-appropriate way
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and basic statistical methods for reliability
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Hands-on experience working with hardware in lab, workshop, and field environments - ideally with bicycles
- Organized, proactive,detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple topics simultaneously
- Interest in micromobility, engineering, and sustainable hardware solutions is a plus
- Willingness to work on-site (ideally 3 days per week) at our beautiful headquarters in Leipzig-Plagwitz
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
