MES Consultant

Engineering Industries eXcellence is seeking a Siemens Opcenter Discrete Functional Consultant who will be responsible for analyzing manufacturing business requirements and translating them into functional MES solutions based on Siemens Opcenter Execution Discrete. This position is 100% remote, based anywhere in Europe (preferably Germany, Italy, France, Spain, UK, Serbia, Hungary, or Belgium).

The role focuses on manufacturing processes, functional design, configuration support, testing, and customer alignment. The consultant acts as a key interface between business users, solution architects, and technical teams to ensure the MES solution meets operational needs and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze customer manufacturing processes and requirements (production, quality, traceability, genealogy).

• Design functional MES solutions using Opcenter Execution Discrete aligned with business objectives.

• Define functional specifications, workflows (BPMs), use cases, and acceptance criteria.

• Support configuration of Opcenter modules together with technical consultants and developers.

• Participate in integration definition with ERP (e.g. SAP), automation systems, and shop‑floor equipment.

• Support functional testing activities: unit tests, integration tests, UAT preparation and execution.

• Validate MES processes against real shop‑floor scenarios and user expectations.

• Support user training, documentation, and change management activities.

• Act as functional point of contact during project delivery and hypercare phases.

Required Qualifications

Functional & MES Skills

• Strong understanding of MES/MOM concepts:

  • Work orders & dispatching

  • Routing & operations

  • WIP tracking

  • Genealogy & traceability

  • Quality checks & non‑conformance handling

• Hands‑on experience with Siemens Opcenter Execution Discrete from a functional perspective.

• Ability to map manufacturing processes to standard MES functionalities.

• Knowledge of ISA‑95 principles and shop‑floor execution models.

Manufacturing Domain Knowledge

• Experience in discrete manufacturing environments (automotive, aerospace, electronics, industrial equipment).

• Understanding of production KPIs (OEE, throughput, scrap, downtime).

• Familiarity with shop‑floor roles (operators, supervisors, quality, maintenance).

Collaboration & Soft Skills

• Strong communication and workshop facilitation skills.

• Ability to translate business needs into clear functional specifications.

• Structured, pragmatic, and customer‑oriented mindset.

• Comfortable working with both business users and technical teams.

• Ability to work in international and multi‑site project environments.

Experience

• 3–6+ years of experience in MES, manufacturing IT, or digital manufacturing projects.

• Proven involvement in at least one full Opcenter Discrete project lifecycle (design → build → test → go‑live).

• Experience working with ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and production environments is a strong plus.
