About the Role

Nature Sustainability publishes research and opinion across a broad spectrum of technology, engineering, natural, and social science domains related to sustainability challenges and solutions. A key focus of the journal is to promote research that integrates technological, environmental, and social systems, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue.

We are seeking an Interim Associate or Senior Editor with a background in electrochemistry, ideally with expertise in energy conversion or closely related areas. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of sustainability research and an interest in interdisciplinary approaches that contribute to advancing sustainability discussions.

This position involves working closely with the Chief Editor and a diverse team of editors across multiple disciplines, contributing to all aspects of the editorial process.

The role is available from 13 July 2026 and can be based in our Berlin, Milan, or Pune offices in line with Springer Nature’s hybrid working policy.

Role Responsibilities

• Handle manuscript selection and manage the peer-review process
• Commission and edit Review and Comment articles
• Write editorial content for the journal
• Represent the journal at scientific meetings and conferences
• Collaborate with editors across other Nature Portfolio journals

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

• PhD and a strong research background in a relevant discipline
• Broad scientific knowledge and training
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Ability to quickly understand and engage with new research areas
• Strong interest in science communication and interdisciplinary research
• Good time management and organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills

Desirable:

• Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience
• Editorial experience (not required; full training will be provided)
