About the role
We are looking for a Laboratory Technician / Chemical Technician to join our Applications & Technologies team in Allschwil.
In this exciting role you will plan and execute customer trials as well as actively support on internal research and development (R&D) projects. You will conduct diverse practical lab work in the R&D field to improve sustainability in the chemical industry and develop future technologies.
**Your main tasks and responsibilities: **

Characterization analysis using key techniques, including: gas chromatography (GC) with headspace and liquid sampling coupled to MS, FID, and TCD detectors; high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV and refractive index (RI) detection; inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES); UV–Vis spectrophotometry; differential scanning calorimetry (DSC); optical microscopy; X‑ray powder diffraction (XRPD); Raman spectroscopy; as well as classical methods such as titration, water content determination, density, and viscosity measurements.

Responsible for analytical support, ensuring the implementation and optimization of methods and operability of corresponding devices during trials (including instrument preparation, external calibration, sample preparation and routine measurements)

Planning, execution, evaluation and reporting of customer trials (bench scale to pilot scale).

Support in execution of internal and external trials for the development and optimization of Sulzer technologies;

Work in close co-operation with internal company stakeholders;

Ensure and respect appropriate ESH measures and "good laboratory practice" during daily business. Actively contribute to management of change and risk assessments. Respect safety regulations and quality procedures, report near misses, incidents and accidents. Consider LEAN aspects at work.

Suggest and implement improvements in the analytical laboratory;

Support and participate in the deployment of Technology & Innovation (T&I) Digitalization strategy.
**To succeed in this role, you will need: **

Diploma lab/ chemical technician (apprenticeship, technical degree)

3-5 years of experience in a similar role

Excellent English. German and French are an asset

Good technical knowledge in analytical chemistry is essential
-
Highly proficient with various instruments and techniques such as GC (MS, FID and TCD), HPLC (UV and RI), ICP-OES, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, titration and measurement of physical properties such as density and viscosity

Awareness for safe handling of chemicals, potentially hazardous materials and equipment
-
Great team player, strong communication skills, strong organization ability, very independent, flexible, trustworthy, customer oriented and adaptable.
