The Resident Network Engineer will report to the Service Delivery Manager. This highly technical role provides post-sales, on-site and potentially on-call support for HPE Juniper Networks products. This role will / might require long working hours. The ideal candidate for this role must have a detailed understanding of protocols used for IP-based service provider networks and be able to demonstrate technical expertise in the configuration, troubleshooting and operation of IP-based routers and include hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers. It requires excellent customer interface skills, including both written and verbal.
Client Location: Seattle, WA or Redmond, WA
This is a full-time position and may require occasional long work hours. Role is fully remote and flexible. Technical support to the Customer may require the Resident Network Consultant to:

Troubleshoot equipment and network problems and open and track JTAC cases through to problem resolution on pre- and post-production issues.

Raise equipment Return Material Authorizations (RMA’s) and track these through to problem resolution

Produce a written summary report of the status of Design projects, equipment, and network problems on a regular basis to the Customer.

Hold design and information gathering workshops with the Customer to understand the Customer’s existing network design and technical requirements of new network designs.
-
Understand the Customer’s organizational structure and become familiar with the Customer’s network implementation and support processes and procedures to help in designing a network that is available and sustainable.

Carry out testing of new Designs, features, and functionality as required by the Customer in a laboratory environment and to help develop plans to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network.

Follow established industry procedures for performing and documenting all testing.
-
Test patches and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the pre-production test network and then live network as implementation plans dictate.

Hold technology workshops with the Customer to discuss equipment and network problems, and to provide case status updates, including the reasons for any problems encountered and the workarounds and/or solutions that are being tried.

Train the Customer’s design, implementation, and support personnel to configure and operate HPE Juniper Networks products.
-
Support design and planning of Juniper MX, EX, and QFX networking and security products and associated solutions within the Customer infrastructure.

Support ongoing efforts in defining best practice policies for HPE Juniper Networks product applications used by Customers.
-
To peer with other employees performing similar Resident Network Engineering roles where lessons learned may help minimize the risk associated with major network upgrades or changes in the network.
Core Technical Qualifications
-
Strong expertise with Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos EVO, with a broad understanding of Juniper product architectures.
-
Hands-on experience in the deployment, configuration, operation, and troubleshooting of large-scale IP routing environments.
-
Advanced knowledge of core networking protocols and technologies, including:
-
TCP/IP and MPLS fundamentals
-
Routing protocols:
-
BGP with route-reflector topologies, add-path, and rib-sharding.
-
IS-IS with traffic engineering extensions and loop-free alternatives.
-
Strong knowledge of MPLS, class of service, and transport technologies.
-
Experience with IPv6 and segment routing preferred.
-
Routing policy design, implementation, and optimization
-
Hands-on operational expertise with Juniper routing and switching platforms (MX, PTX, QFX preferred).
-
Experience with network automation and scripting using Python, SLAX, or similar automation frameworks.
-
Experience with export of network performance data (streaming telemetry, IPFIX) to controllers for global traffic engineering.
Operational & Consulting Responsibilities

Manage and drive resolution of complex customer technical issues through structured case ownership and escalation management.

Provide technical consultation and operational guidance aligned to customer network requirements and business objectives.

Support customer projects including design reviews, implementation planning, operational readiness, and post-deployment support.

Develop, maintain, and improve operational documentation, knowledge base content, and technical procedures.

Collaborate with internal engineering, support, and escalation teams to address technical challenges and improve product outcomes.

Identify operational risks and recommend improvements to network reliability, scalability, and performance.
Leadership & Collaboration

Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the team.

Work effectively in cross-functional environments involving support, engineering, and customer stakeholders.

Operate independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.

Provide technical guidance across geographically distributed teams and stakeholders.

Professional Experience & Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).

5+ years of experience in network engineering, technical consulting, or advanced technical support.

Strong experience supporting large-scale cloud, service provider, or enterprise network environments.
-
Industry certifications such as Juniper JNCIP/JNCIE (Service Provider, Enterprise, or Cloud) and/or equivalent certifications are strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting hyperscale cloud and multi-vendor network environments.

Strong understanding of software-driven networking, automation, and operational tooling.

Demonstrated ability to influence customer technical strategy through design consultation and operational best practices.
