As an R&D Engineer (m/f/d) Ion Beam Sputtering, you will contribute to the further development of our LEYBOLD OPTICS IBS ion beam sputtering platforms. In this role, you will develop advanced thin-film coating processes and support the realization of innovative vacuum coating systems for demanding optical applications. Job Responsibilities
• You develop and optimize ion beam sputtering processes for the deposition of optical thin-film systems.
• You are actively involved in the development, testing, and qualification of new components, process solutions, and system features
• You coordinate and execute R&D projects in close collaboration with internal departments and external partners
• You write development and application reports as well as scientific publications
• You attend international conferences and technical events to follow the latest developments, present results, and build professional networks
• You commission novel vacuum coating systems
• You support our sales team and customers with technical expertise
Qualifications

You have successfully completed a university degree e.g., in Physics, Applied Physics, Material Science, Physical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a comparable field

Experience in process development, experimental work, data evaluation, or system commissioning

Ideally, you have experience with ion beam sputtering systems, vacuum coating technology, optical thin films, or optical interference filters

You have a good command of English, German skills are of advantage

You are willing to travel internationally to visit customers, support system commissioning, and attend conferences
